I guess I'm not the only one capitalizing on the stupidity of jackass commentors. KSDK threw up a photo of President Obama at the memorial for Nelson Mandela taking a photo with two other people. Allow me to show you the story.
And here's the photo in question:
Before I get to the comments, I want to quickly explain what it is that pisses me off so much about this story. It's an important look at the state of journalism which is driven by page clicks and ad revenue.
This isn't anything new, mind you. Before the time of autoplay video ads, there existed brochures and pamphlets in which writers would take certain liberties to pull the coin out of gullible hands. It preys on re-enforcing what people think about Obama already, which is that he's disrespectful and a terrible president.
Of course, if you look at any of the other people in this photo, no one other than Michelle Obama is looking in the direction of what I assume is the memorial, and she has that blank look I get when I'm bored and waiting for something to happen.
Also, she kinda suffers from Bitchy Resting Face.
What I'm saying is don't be led by the asshole writing, especially when they are shitting more speculation than a conspiracy theorist with an internet access and a copy of Zeitgeist. They knew exactly what they were doing and got the responses they wanted.
Lucky for all of you, I have a blog that preys right back off these people.
If you want to read the real story of what was going on, here it is in the photographer's own words.
Of course, every news organization around the world shit their pants on this one, but I'm just going to call out KSDK for being the first in this yellowest of journalism.
It wasn't a funeral. It was a memorial service for the man who brought together South Africa and helped end Apartheid. Americans have a problem with understanding that other cultures exist and might do things differently. We perfected mourning. It's all dirges, kneeling, burlap sacks and saving your tears in vials.
The South Africans loved Mandela and exalted his life and the things he did. Lots of people were taking photos together and people were jumping and dancing. It's a celebration!
Nothing like someone bitching about social graces and then calling the president a rude idiot on a public forum right next to their own name. I don't know where Jane Treppler is from, but if she practiced what she preached, there would be a "bless his heart" after she said something insulting about the president.
That's how we Midwestern/heartland people call someone an idiot. In a nice, Christian fashion.

It's a good thing people are taking some time to truly think out what they want their opinion to be on this story. God knows we need everyone to sit down and truly ruminate over a moment in time captured by a photographer involving the leader of the free world. She knocked out quite a few words on Facebook, and let us know she's far from being ignorant.
Social media has give us this a weird feeling that what we think or say matters in any way. It does to your children, friends and family, but outside of your monkeysphere, no one does or should give a damn about your opinions on world events. You are not special, your thoughts aren't original and you're probably dumber than you give yourself credit for, especially if you make serious comments on the facebook page of local news stories.
Anyway, if Pam Brown even watched the memorial service, I will eat this blog. Don't worry, I'll figure it out.
I don't know what these people really expect out of Obama other than speechifying. The Executive branch doesn't have the power people think it does. If more people rallied against senators and representatives, we might get somewhere politically. But hey, congress is at an all time low approval rating and everyone will still vote incumbent because it's not MY guy who's fucking up, it's YOUR guy.
ONE WOULD THINK the first African-American president of the United States of America being chummy with other world leaders of other races would be exactly what Mandela would smile upon.
As an American, I'm not embarrassed by what Obama did at Mandela's memorial service, but I am embarrassed by the dipshits who make it into sensationalized a photo about nothing with pure speculation.
How many people believe we should be handling the leaders of other countries:
Not shaking hands with Raul Castro would have been more embarrassing, but our freedom erections won't let us accept that.
FUCK YOU CUBA! |
Thank god we can get back to the normal hilarity of the St. Louis scene. Obamaphones and Urban people!
This is all a non story blown out of proportion by idiot Americans who don't understand what's happening. Everyone want's to stroke their haterection, but at the same time, you have the last leader of the free world posing with Bono with smiles at the same event.
It's not photo shopped, that's a screenshot of G. W. Bush's Instagram. Also, G. W. Bush has an Instagram account.
Also, look at these assholes at the memorial service:
If you want to read the full list of stupidity, you can do so here. But you shouldn't. I've read most of those comments and it's not worth it. Let's just go out on the best comment that sums up how I felt about the whole damn debacle.

You're the smartest of us all, Tim.
