I am not a fan of the death penalty, as I have stated before. I don't agree with government funded murder outside of the civilized confines of a battlefield during a questionable invasion.

I'm trained to kill a person in numerous ways, and have found myself in uncomfortable situations debating if I needed to use those skills. I have no desire to kill a person, and I hope I don't have to in any context.

Up in North County, a video of two teens tossing around and abusing a dog went viral. The kids were caught and the dog is doing fine in protective care. But that's not enough. No, we need to spend our time coming up with the most cruel and bizarre punishment for a couple of kids.

The following are comments pulled from STLToday. These are fellow humans who are calling for the death of two kids because of animal abuse.

Execution

Jail sentences, having their information put out so someone else will violently beat a pair of kids

Death for anyone who has abused an animal. I certainly hope this person eats only ethically grown and slaughtered meats because your McChicken doesn't exactly live the high life.

Cutting off arms and legs for them to die slowly.

Rape

This one was all over the thread wanting to adopt the dog because it deserves a better life. The humans, however, can be killed

I mean, that's just super racist.

Slightly less, but still super racist.

For some people, not advocating for their immediately death and dismemberment will get you accused of being as bad as Michael Vick. But read those comments again and remember they come from the people standing next to you in line at the grocery store. Normal, regular people call for public hangings to be reinstated and immediate execution following a guilty verdict to save tax money.

That's what a human life has become to some of us. Tax dollars being "wasted". You'll hear the same argument with it's a WIC card or health insurance. You are only as useful as your tax base. And while some of the more cynical would agree with that sentiment, how would that change if it was their kid? If your son snapped for whatever reason, would you call for his bloody execution?

Maybe these kids are sociopaths. Maybe they did something stupid because they are kids. Either way, It's a terrible look at our humanity when we would rather kill someone than rehabilitate them.

Then again, that's our society. It's easier and cheaper to throw something away than to fix it
